July 1,1935: Mauretania left Southampton for the last time bound for the scrap yards at Rosyth. She arrived at the breakers yard on July 3 after averaging 12.5 knots on her final trip. Scrapping was completed by late 1936. A transatlantic legend had passed. But the memory lives on...... |
